Josh Brolin Says “Green Lantern Didn’t Work Out” & Comments On Kyle Chandler Being In Talks For DC’s HBO Series ‘Lanterns’

Josh Brolin had reportedly been in talks to play Hal Jordan in the HBO series Lanterns, based on DC ComicsGreen Lantern.

In a recent interview, the Dune star acknowledged that things “didn’t work out” and commented on reports that Kyle Chandler is in talks to play the superhero role.

“You know what? Green Lantern didn’t work out, but that’s okay,” Brolin said in an interview with ComicBook. “It’s working out. Who is it going to be, Kyle Chandler? I love him as an actor, I think he’s wonderful, actually. And, you know, we’ll see what’s down the line, man.”

Deadline reported that Chandler was in talks to play Hal Jordan, the same character Ryan Reynolds played in the 2011 film Green Lantern.

Lanterns is a series from Ozark’s Chris Mundy, Watchmen‘s Damon Lindelof, and comic book writer Tom King. It follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.

HBO is producing the eight-episode Lanterns in association with Warner Bros Television and DC Studios. Mundy will serve as showrunner, and Lindelof and King are co-writing and executive producing.

“John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most compelling characters, and Lanterns brings them to life in an original detective story that is a foundational part of the unified DCU we’re launching next summer with Superman,” DC Studios co-chairmen and co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran said at the time of the series announcement.
