When we heard that Jenna Ortega was cast as Astrid Deetz, daughter of Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz, in the forthcoming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, we knew her red carpet outfits were going to be next-level good. And we were right!
The movie is directed by Tim Burton, who also helms Ortega’s Netflix series Wednesday, and promises to be just as kooky, creepy, and delightful as its ‘80s predecessor. It hits theatres in the UK on September 6, and the star and her longtime stylist Enrique Melendez are pulling out all the stops for the press tour. As in, recreating one of the most famous outfits from the movie! On August 19, Ortega stepped out wearing a faithful recreation of one of Ryder’s OG looks, a plaid skirt and blazer with a cheeky Handbook for the Recently Deceased handbag.
‘Method’ dressing, or matching your red carpet and press outfits to the theme of the film, has been a major trend amongst our fave celebs over the past few years, including Margot Robbie’s award-winning run of Barbie-inspired looks and Zendaya’s futuristic fits for Dune 2 and subsequent complete 180 to sporty chic for Challengers. Thus far, it looks like Ortega is leaning all the way into the goth glam of the Beetlejuice world, with lots of black stripes and rich jewel tones.
