‘The Witcher’ Fans Need To Go Easy On Liam Hemsworth, Says Costar Freya Allen

Freya Allen feels empathy for the uncomfortable place Liam Hemsworth is in as he takes over the lead role in The Witcher.

Hemsworth was named as the replacement for Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia on The Witcher in October 2022, and there still is some grumbling among the hardcore fans. Cavill’s leave has been murky, with creative differences frequently cited as the reason behind the recasting.

In an interview with Collider, costar Allen (Princess Cirilla of Cintra, aka Ciri in the series), voices her hopes that fans will cut him a break.

“I don’t want to speak for him, but from what I’ve understood, I feel like he’s really wanting to try and bring the heart,” Allen said. “He’s been training. I feel sorry for him, honestly, because, number one, that fan base can be very attack-y, and it’s not an ideal situation to be in taking up someone else’s role.”

She added, “But I’m really excited to see what he does. And he’s such a lovely guy. I just hope that people give him the time of day, you know?”

The fourth season production on the series started last month. It will be the next-to-last season, as it has already been announced by Netflix that Season 5 is the finale.

The Season 4 logline: “After the shocking, Continent-altering events that close out season three, the new season follows Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri, who are faced with traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons apart from each other. If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire and finding one another again.”
