Patty Jenkins is giving an update on film projects she’s been attached to, such as Wonder Woman 3 and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.
In a new interview, the filmmaker says another sequel to the DC superhero movie will most likely never happen.
While appearing on Max’s Talking Pictures Podcast, Ben Mankiewicz asked the Wonder Woman director if the third installment was done.
“Yeah, for the time being, but probably easily forever,” she said.
When asked if another director would take on the film, Jenkins said, “No, they’re not interested in doing any Wonder Woman for the time being.”
Jenkins was developing a third movie in the franchise starring Gal Gadot. However, as James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios, they had a different vision for the DCEU and Wonder Woman 3 was axed for now.
“It’s not an easy task, what’s going on with DC,” Jenkins said. “James Gunn and Peter Safran have to follow their own heart into their own plans. I don’t know what they’re planning on doing and why… I have sympathy for what a big job it is.”
Although Jenkins won’t be developing a new film for the DCEU, she is working on a movie set in the Star Wars universe. Although the film was removed from the studio’s release schedule in 2022, Jenkins says she’s working on a script for it now.
“So, when I left Star Wars to do Wonder Woman 3, and I started working on that, we talked about, ‘Well, maybe I’ll come back to Star Wars after Wonder Woman 3, so we started a deal for that to happen,” she said. “When Wonder Woman 3 then went away, Lucasfilm and I were like, ‘Oh, we’ve got to finish this deal.’ We finished the deal right as the strike was beginning, so I now owe a draft of Star Wars. So we will see what happens there. Who knows?”
Jenkins said that Lucasfilm has “a hard job in front of them of what’s the first movie they’re going to do,” adding, “They have other directors who have been working, but I am now back on doing Rogue Squadron. We’ll see what happens. We need to get it to where we’re both super happy with it.”
The director said she would “absolutely” be happy to direct a film in the Star Wars universe as she finds “something so beautiful in this world.”
“If I can do something beautiful and do something that serves that audience, I would love to do it,” she added.
