While the UK tends to spend the first Monday in May enjoying the bank holiday, the world’s top celebrities, stylists and designers are always busy prepping for the Met Gala; undeniably the most major red carpet of the year.
So while the rest of us were staring out of the window wondering what on earth is going on with the weather right now, across the pond anyone and everyone with even the slightest connection to Monday night’s Met Gala could only dream of having the time to ponder a lack of sunshine.
Instead, the city of New York no doubt played host to endless last minute crises, as the enormous teams behind the Met Gala’s carefully-selected guest list put together the finishing touches for what was about to be one of the most talked-about events of the year.
Co-chaired this year by Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth and Anna Wintour – with Loewe’s creative director, Jonathan Anderson and TikTok‘s CEO, Shou Zi Chew serving as honorary chairs of the event – there was never any doubt that the 2024 carpet was set to play host to some seriously memorable looks.
And while attendees are always encouraged to go as bold and as original as they dare in the fashion stakes, they are steered in a certain direction each year by the event’s theme.
With 2024’s Met Gala theme having been confirmed a few months prior to be Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion – with the dress code for the red carpet and event being specified as “The Garden of Time” – we’d be lying if we said we weren’t expecting a lot of florals. And yes, it’s spring.
