EXCLUSIVE: Bunk’d, Disney Channel‘s longest-running live-action series, will end its run with the conclusion of its current seventh season. The final installment of 10 new episodes will air in 2024.
Production on Season 7 was suspended in early May due to the WGA strike. At that time, filming had been completed on 12 episodes of the 20-episode Season 7, with eight episodes remaining to be shot. The order has now been increased to 22 episodes, and production on the remaining 10 episodes is underway.
Season 7 premiered July 23, with the 12-episode Part 1 wrapping its run on Disney Channel on December 1. It included the series’ milestone 150th episode in September.
“With a fantastic cast of characters and hilarious and heartful storylines, it’s no wonder Bunk’d has been one of Disney Channel’s longest-running and successful live-action series,” Ayo Davis, President, Disney Branded Television, said in a statement to Deadline. “We’d like to thank our talented cast, creative team and crew for bringing tremendous joy and laughter to kids for seven incredible seasons.”
While Bunk’d is coming to an end, launching a new generation of live-action sitcoms on Disney Channel is a priority of Davis’ creative team, led by Charlie Andrews, EVP, Live Action and Unscripted. His recently hired No. 2, veteran kids’ and family entertainment executive Jenna Boyd, is actively developing a slate of multi-cam comedies geared for kids 6-11.
Bunk’d launched in 2015 as a spinoff of the popular Disney Channel series Jessie when Ross siblings Emma (Peyton List), Ravi (Karan Brar) and Zuri (Skai Jackson) left their New York penthouse to embark on more adventures at Camp Kikiwaka, a rustic summer camp in Maine.
The series’ original cast also included Miranda May as enthusiastic camp counselor Lou Hockhauser. May has remained on the series for all seven seasons while List, Brar and Jackspn left after after Season 3 when the comedy underwent a creative overhaul. Additional cast members throughout Bunk’d‘s run have included Will Buie Jr, Raphael Alejandro, Israel Johnson, Scarlett Estevez, Shelby Simmons, Shiloh Verrico, Luke Busey, Alfred Lewis and Trevor Tordjman of Disney Channel’s Zombies franchise.
Targeting kids 6-11 with storylines promoting the importance of friendship, teamwork and learning to get along with others, Bunk’d was created by Pamela Eells O’Connell (Jessie, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody), who served as executive producer for the first three seasons. Phil Baker and Erin Dunlap took over as showrunners for Season 4, and Dunlap took over as EP and showrunner for Seasons 5, 6 and 7.
Throughout its run, Bunk’d has been a top performer on linear TV and streaming platforms. Part 1 of Season 7 was summer 2023’s second most-watched live-action series and Top 10 series overall for kids 6-11 in combined viewing across streaming and linear platforms, according to Nielsen data (Live+7 for linear, live for streaming).
The series is produced by Disney-owned It’s a Laugh Productions.
