‘The Night Agent’: Amanda Warren Aboard As Series Regular For Season 2

EXCLUSIVE: After starring opposite Jamie Foxx in Maggie Betts’ acclaimed legal drama The Burial, currently streaming on Prime Video, Amanda Warren has been tapped for the biggest new role in the second season of Netflix‘s smash hit series The Night Agent, from creator Shawn Ryan and Sony Pictures Television.

The actress joins returning cast that includes Gabriel Basso and Luciane Buchanan.

Now ranking sixth on Netflix’s Most Popular TV chart, The Night Agent amassed 168.7M hours viewed in its first few days on the streamer in March, within a week being set up for Season 2, in one of the streamer’s fastest renewals to date.

Based on Matthew Quirk’s same-name NYT bestseller of 2019, the show sees the FBI’s Peter Sutherland (Basso) manning a phone in the basement of the White House that never rings — until the night that it does, propelling him into a fast moving and dangerous conspiracy that ultimately leads all the way to the Oval Office.

In past interviews, Ryan has spoken to the fact that each season of the show will be a self-contained story, opening the door to new plot lines and characters with each go-round. Warren will portray Catherine Weaver, a veteran of the top-secret Night Action investigative program, who trains and oversees various Night Agents, including Basso’s new recruit, Sutherland. Smart, private and determined, Catherine is a fierce defender of her agents, but finds it difficult to earn Peter’s trust when he struggles with betrayal issues from his experiences in Season 1.

The next 10-episode installment of the conspiracy action-thriller will be released sometime next year. In addition to serving as showrunner, Ryan exec produces for MiddKid Productions, alongside Seth Gordon and Julia Gunn for Exhibit A; MiddKid’s Marney Hochman; Jamie Vanderbilt, William Sherak, Paul Neinstein and Nicole Tossou for Project X; and David Beaubaire for Sunset Lane Media.

In Betts’s TIFF title, also starring Tommy Lee Jones, Warren plays Gloria, the wife of Foxx’s Florida personal injury attorney Willie E. Gary (Jamie Foxx), who helps a funeral home owner save his family business from a corporate behemoth, exposing a complex web of race, power, and injustice. Previously, she led the CBS cop drama East New York, also appearing in significant roles on Apple TV+’s Dickinson, Max’s Gossip Girl reboot, CBS’s Madam Secretary, USA Network’s The Purge, HBO’s The Leftovers and more.

On the feature side, Warren has appeared in Reinaldo Marcus Green’s feature directorial debut Monsters and Men, along with such buzzy auteur-driven vehicles as Dan Gilroy’s Roman J. Israel, Esq., Darren Aronofsky’s Mother! and the Martin McDonagh pics Seven Psychopaths and Three Billboards. Additionally, she was seen in Barry Levinson’s Emmy-nominated TV movie The Wizard of Lies.

Previously, Warren also starred opposite Jon Michael Hill in the Geffen’s production of Katori Hall’s The Mountaintop. Recently signing with Alchemy Entertainment for management, the in-demand actress is also repped by Buchwald and Ginsburg Daniels Kallis.
