Michael Clifford has been entertaining audiences for nearly a decade. After his band 5 Seconds of Summer dropped their debut album in 2014, they were met with near immediate success. He played lead guitar on the group’s many hits like “She Looks So Perfect”, “She’s Kinda Hot”, “Youngblood” and many more. Back in 2022, the group released their fifth album 5SOS5.
By his side through much of the band’s success has been his now-wife Crystal Leigh. The pair have been married for two years, but they were together for many more. Most recently, Crystal and Michael set out on a new journey together: parenthood. With the pair welcoming their first child, get to know more about Crystal and her relationship with the 5SOS guitarist.
How Did Michael Meet Crystal?
It’s not entirely clear how Crystal met the “Amnesia” rocker, but apparently, they were friends before they started dating. It was revealed that their relationship took a turn though during a group trip to Bali in 2016, per Inside Weddings. “We fell in love and have been inseparable ever since,” he told the outlet.
In 2020, Michael commemorated their anniversary with a photo from very early in their relationship on Instagram. In the pic, Crystal smiled, while the guitarist appeared to be trying to lick her face. “Who would have thought that 4 years after this photo was taken we would be sitting on a couch together in North Hollywood watching shitty reality tv eating buncha crunch with me lucky enough to be able to call you my bride to be. Thank you for blessing me and allowing me to become the man I am today,” he wrote in the caption.
Crystal Is a Talent Manager
Crystal has worked in and around the music industry for her whole career. Her LinkedIn page notes that she’s a managing partner for White Label.Social, and some of her past positions include doing A&R for Interscope Records and being a talent and influencers director for TheAudience.
Michael & Crystal Have Matched Outfits on Plenty of Occasions
Over the years, Michael and Crystal have showed off just how well their sense of style gels, by matching outfits, Halloween costumes, and hairstyles. In October 2018, the pair both dyed their hair light pink. The following year, they dressed as characters from the anime My Hero Academia for Halloween. Michael wished Crystal a happy birthday in June 2021 and shared a photo of the two of them wearing matching tie-dye outfits on Instagram.
They Got Married in Secret
Michael revealed that he’d proposed to Crystal in January 2019. He posted the romantic photos on Instagram and gushed about his new fiancée. “I was lucky enough to ask the love of my life to marry me in the place it all began for us. in the last 3 years she has helped evolve and shape who I am in ways I could never have imagined. I couldn’t ask for anyone better to spend the rest of my life with. I love loving you, Crystal,” he wrote.
The couple got married in a private ceremony on January 11, 2021. They held the intimate wedding in their home with only their wedding party present. They announced that they’d gotten married by sharing the romantic photos with People. Despite the small gathering, they also said that they planned to hold a larger ceremony with more traditional elements. “I really wanted to save all of the traditional special wedding moments for our actual ceremony so I’m able to enjoy them with my mom,” Crystal told the magazine. “We’re actually both only children, so we want to make sure all of our parents get to experience every aspect of our wedding since they only get to do it once! No pressure.”
They’re Parents to a Baby Girl
In June 2023, Michael and Crystal revealed that they were expecting their first child. They made the announcement by sharing their pregnancy photos, and the guitarist shared a simple post on X. “Hey, I’m gonna be a dad,” he wrote. They also said that their baby’s due date was November 11.
Michael and Crystal announced that their daughter was born on December 7. They posted a series of Instagram photos with their new baby girl to introduce her to the world. “The love of our life has arrived, meet Lua,” Michael wrote in a joint Instagram post.
