Fox Nation’s Jesus Christ Drama Finds Its Distributor & Director

EXCLUSIVE: Fox Nation’s Jesus Christ show has found its distributor and director.

All3Media International has taken on Jesus Crown of Thorns [working title] for international sales and Deadline can reveal the premium docu-drama will be directed by Hereward Pelling (The Lost Pirate Kingdom).

Revealed by Deadline in October, the series, which is intended as a franchise, will “redefine the way we perceive Jesus’ life against the backdrop of the turbulent times,” according to producer Nutopia. It will set Jesus’ life and mission in the context of the intense political backdrop in which he emerged as a revolutionary figure who dared challenge the status quo.

Jesus Crown of Thorns promises to be illuminating and will explore the historical context of Jesus’ life in a way that’s never been told before,” said Rachel Job, SVP Non-Scripted Content at All3Media International. “Set against the backdrop of turbulent, political times and focused on his role as a revolutionary figure, Nutopia’s trademark innovative, premium style and thrilling storytelling deliver a hugely appealing addition to our factual slate that we are excited to introduce to clients around the world.”

In recent years, producer Nutopia has nurtured a reputation for this form of historical docu-drama, and it has already made a Jesus show titled Jesus: His Life for History.

Other docu-drama credits include The Last Czars for Netflix and The Royal Mob for Sky. It also makes premium unscripted such as Welcome to Earth with Will Smith. All3Media International has sold a number of Nutopia’s shows.

Filming begins on Crown of Thorns in Morocco next year.
