There’s no denying it, silver hair has been one of the most talked-about shades of the past year. Sure, some people have been frantically googling how to cover it, but there’s been an even bigger conversation around how to embrace it, or even fake it. Regardless, some serious grey or silver hair appreciation is happening.
When we asked the hairstylists about colour hair predictions for 2023 many of them spotlit grey/ silver, with herringbone highlights that have been dominating hair trends. “This season we will definitely see a continuation of women embracing their grey hair,” says James Pryce, expert master stylist at Larry King Salon. Not only will we be embracing our God-given greys but, according to James, we’ll also be faking the grey with a little help from glosses, tints, and dyes.

We’ve spotted one shade, in particular, taking off. Oyster grey is the fresh, breezy, pearlescent colour trend that’s cropping up all over Instagram, and it’s perfect for summer.
The bright, pearlescent-silver colour brings together a unique blend of cool toned, platinum blonde with shimmering hints of silver with blue and purples undertones that look like the inside lining of an oyster shell. It creates a sophisticated and modern look that complements a wide range of skin tones and is a great choice for anyone who wants to experiment with a non-traditional hair colours without going too bold or dramatic.
Although it can be a relatively low-maintenance colour choice, the key to an easy silver headed, oyster grey life is prevention and maintaing condition. The ultra glossy, mother-of-pearl sheen is what elevates this colour to the next level, which means hair masks and glossing treatments are this shade’s best friend.
We’ve seen megawatt silky silver strands dominating the ‘gram and offering a pretty – and slightly more daring – alternative to platinum. Alongside bottle grey, we’ve noticed lots of hybrid shades that incorporate natural greys, while emphasising them with the help of beautifully applied dye.
