Taylor Swift Just Held a Masterclass at Hiding a Fringe in a Hairstyle

Taylor Swift’s fringe is essential to her signature aesthetic. She wears it straight, she wears it curly, she wears it in intense summer humidity. But for the Renaissance movie premiere in London, Swift decided to go (mostly) fringe-less, though that doesn’t mean she’s growing it out entirely. Rather, she presented a true masterclass in how to hide your fringe within your hairstyle.

Taylor Swift attended the premiere in a glittering silver gown, per the dress code, with her dark blonde hair worn in glamorous-yet-undone tousled Hollywood waves. Instead of wearing her fringe across her forehead as she usually does, Swift decided it was time for a change and brushed it over to one side along with her part, tucking it precisely under the front portions of her hair. They’re still bangs, obviously, but the sideswept style gives them a sweet, retro ‘50s vibe. Whatever pins she used to secure them must have been made from steel, because the tucked-away fringe didn’t budge one bit as she posed on the red carpet. (It remains to be seen if the look lasted during the movie itself, though, given that Swift is a noted and enthusiastic chair dancer.)

The rest of Swift’s Renaissance beauty look was just as bejewelled, with frosty metallic silver eye shadow and black liner. Swift’s red lipstick is just as important to her look as her fringe, and it was present and accounted for; lately, she’s been wearing a darker red shade, but Swift opted for a vibrant cherry for the Beyoncé film premiere.

This isn’t the first time Swift has done some hairstyling sleight of hand on the red carpet. For the premiere of her concert movie, she shouted out the 1989 album with a clever faux-bob that harkened back to her beloved crop from that era. At the MTV VMAs, she wore what we can only describe as a deconstructed French twist with lots of romantic curls and waves pulled out. Swift is currently on a break from the Eras tour, which means you never know where she’ll pop up next — and what she’ll be doing with her hair.
