Fans of Ab-Fab, listen up, it sounds as if our favourite PR and fashion director duo are set to return to our screens. Jennifer Saunders just teased that there’s a new series of Ab-Fab in the works. No, this not a drill, you’re going to want to get that Bollinger chilled, pronto!
The hit BBC show, Absolutely Fabulous, which first aired from 1992, and ran for three seasons – followed by a series of specials and two extra seasons later on as well as a 2016 film – followed the hilarious ups and downs of PR guru Edina Monsoon (Saunders) and her extravagant, beehive-wearing wild fashion director pal Patsy Stone (Joanna Lumley).
Saunders told her longtime creative partner Dawn French that a new script based on Absolutely Fabulous is on the way.
Speaking on their podcast Titting About, Dawn seemed to coerce her comedy partner into promising a “serious first draft” of an Ab Fab-related script by the end of this year.
“I need to write a film or a series based on Ab Fab, because everyone wants another Ab Fab movie,” Jennifer said, adding, “I can’t do that, I just don’t have a thing. I want to do something related.”
On details of the series of Ab-Fab, Dawn asked whether Joanna Lumley would reprise her iconic role as Patsy, Jennifer answered, “Possibly, including some Ab Fab-ness, but not totally Ab Fab.”
Dawn then convinced Saunders that by 31 December this year, a draft would be written. The pair seemed to agree with Dawn shouting, “She’s shaking on it! Alright, there’s a deal for a new Ab Fab product!”
So, there we have it. Confirmed by its writer. Let’s just hope she keeps to her promise!
