Lily Gladstone Calls Taylor Sheridan’s ‘Yellowstone’ Depiction Of American West “Delusional” & “Deplorable”

Lily Gladstone is not holding back her opinion on Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone and raising her voice against the depiction of the American West.

In a new interview, Gladstone shared that she auditioned several times for the Kevin Costner-led series due to the lack of opportunities and told Vulture the Paramount Network drama was “Delusional! Deplorable!”

Despite Gladstone slamming the Western drama, she does not fault the Native American actors who have booked roles in the series.

“No offense to the Native talent in that. I auditioned several times. That’s what we had,” she added.

Gladstone stars in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, a film that takes place at the turn of the 20th century when oil brought a fortune to the Osage Nation, who became some of the richest people in the world overnight. The wealth of these Native Americans immediately attracted white interlopers, who manipulated, extorted, and stole as much Osage money as they could before resorting to murder.

Earlier this year, Gladstone did an interview with Empire magazine where she talked about the reason she wanted to be part of the Scorsese film.

“A lot of people are really wanting to call this ‘Martin Scorsese’s Western’,” she said. “With natives and Westerns, we are so dehumanized that it just kind of feels like we’re part of the landscape – instead of humans that are telling a story.”
