‘Supa Team 4’ Trailer: First Look At Netflix’s Debut African Animation Series

EXCLUSIVE: Here’s a first trailer for Supa Team 4, Netflix’s first African animation series. The series launches next month on July 20.

The eight-part series sees comes from writer Malenga Mulendema, South African toon studio Triggerfish and London-based kids specialist Cake, with animation from France’s Superprod. African voice talent including John Kani, Pamela Nomvete, Zowa Ngwira, Namisa Mdlalose, Nancy Sekhokoane and Sparky Xulu are featured, alongside international actors John McMillan and Kimani Arthur.

In the fast-paced trailer, we see the four school-age teenagers living in a Neo-futuristic city of Lusaka recruited to become superheroes by a retired secret agent. They battle several supervillains, including a huge man with metal legs and a plague of locust-like bugs, a helmeted cyborb-like character, an older woman who produces electricity through a body suit and a crocodile one of the girls calls a “man-croco.”

“We’re a team. Always!” the girls tell each other, despite their families and others dissuading them from taking on their roles.

Mulendema is creator and co-executive producer. Anthony Silverston, Mike Buckland, Tom van Waveren, Edward Galton and Amy Keating Rogers are exec producers, and Ciara Breslin produces alongside Cake and Triggerfish.

The show is also being dubbed into isiZulu, where secret agent Mama K is voiced by Linda Sokhulu.

Zambian rapper, singer and songwriter Sampa the Great created the show’s theme song.
