Amber Heard‘s new film, In The Fire, came out over the weekend. The thriller movie, written and directed by Conor Allyn (No Man’s Land, I’m No Longer Here), had its world premiere at Taormina film festival in Sicily last Saturday 24 June.
In her lead role, the actor plays Grace Burhham, a psychiatrist from New York who travels to work in South America, starring alongside Spanish actor Eduardo Noriega (Open Your Eyes) and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. star Luca Calvani.
“It’s a beautiful movie about the almost supernatural effect and force of love. It is about the boundaries that love can cross and its creation, and really about the overwhelming power that love has,” Heard told People magazine ahead of the premiere. “I don’t want to sound cheesy about it, but it’s a movie about love.”
It is Heard’s first film release in the wake of Amber’s legal battle with her ex-husband Johnny Depp, who sued the former twice for defamation both in the UK, in 2020, and in Virginia, US, in 2022. Filming took place between the two trials, in both Ostuni, Italy, and Guatemala (the actor flew from Guatemala to Virginia to attend the trial).
“The trial was looming over us. We felt the gravity of this huge media machine building against all of us, and the camaraderie of the shoot felt like a good distraction,” Heard’s costar, Luca Calvani, told Variety at the film’s premiere over the weekend. Amber Heard will also reprise her role as Mera in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which is released in December this year.
