Never Have I Ever Star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan wore a Spirited Away corset & we’re obsessed

It’s no secret Maitreyi Ramakrishnan loves anime. In the past, the super fan has cosplayed some iconic anime characters including Sailor Mars and Yuno Gasai. She even has an Attack on Titan tattoo on her hip. But, Maitreyi always keeps us on our toes — rightfully so. The actor just gave a classic Japanese animated film the full fashion treatment with a corseted coordinated set, and the internet is understandably obsessed.

Amid Never Have I Ever season four promotions, Maitreyi shared a new post to her Instagram featuring photos of her wearing a silky blue set. The outfit includes a corset top with Chihiro Ogino, the main character of Studio Ghibli’s cult-favorite movie Spirited Away, printed on the boned bodice. The corset was held together by separated straps that tied together like ribbons on the shoulders. They matched the ribbon intertwined in the coordinated lace-up skirt.

Maitreyi’s matching set was made by Malaysian brand Atasan Studio, which specialises in ribbon corsets and lace-up skirts. While many of their designs feature floral and cultural prints, the brand also incorporates beloved characters into their pieces, including Ponyo, Totoro, Naruto, and Sailor Moon. Maitreyi Ramakrishnan accessorised her bright blue Spirited Away set with matching tie-up heeled sandals and silver jewellery. She kept it simple with drop earrings, her nose ring and rings on her hands. Her long hair was parted in the middle to show off her voluminous loose curls, perfect for the summer.

As expected, her Instagram comments are filled with people reacting. One comment, in particular, stands out as it’s from Netflix’s very own XO, Kitty actor Sang Heon Lee. “Yoooooo!! 😳😳 that dress is sickkkk 😍 spirited away!!😱.” he wrote.

It’s safe to say we (and many others) had the same reaction. This is surely one of Maitreyi’s most iconic looks, and we may or may not be perusing Matasan Studio for a set of our own.
