In a world of many reboots and sequels, we’ve just heard tell of a rather MAGICAL one. Hocus Pocus 3 is coming – bringing Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Wilder and Kathy Najimy’s witchy sisters back to our screens, in the form of a third movie instalment.
Disney boss Sean Bailey – the president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, no less – confirmed the exciting news in a recent interview with the New York Times: “Yes, Hocus Pocus 3 is happening.”
This comes after the success of the Hocus Pocus sequel, Hocus Pocus 2, on Disney+ in 2022 – after 30 years, fans were thrilled for a revisit to the witchy universe.
2.7 billion minutes were streamed during Hocus Pocus 2‘s launch weekend, and it was also the fifth most streamed movie of the year, with a grand total of 5.7 billion minutes viewed.
Here’s what we know so far about Hocus Pocus 3.
What will Hocus Pocus 3 be about?
No specific plotlines have been confirmed, however one Hocus Pocus star in particular has suggested that the third iteration may not be live-action.
Sarah Jessica Parker – who will appear on our screens again very soon with a brand new season of Sex and the City reboot And Just Like That – revealed in a September 2022 interview with Entertainment Weekly that there had been conversations about an animated version of the Hocus Pocus story.
So while nothing has been confirmed, we could potentially have a complete different take on the witch sisters for the third instalment of their story.
“Kathy had a good idea that the third one should be animated. That would be cool and a smart idea,” Sarah said. “It’s fun, funny and could be interesting and innovative, like old-fashioned or new [animation]. Of course I’d be happy to have a conversation, it just depends on what Kathy and Bette want!”
Who will star in Hocus Pocus 3?
As of yet, we don’t have a concrete cast list for Hocus Pocus 3, but we can take an educated guess that the legendary trio of Bette Milder, Kathy Najimy and, of course, Sarah Jessica Parker shall be involved in the new story.
