Sydney Sweeney‘s role as the chaotic Cassie in Euphoria was no doubt a catalyst to her success – since then, she’s starred in another cult TV show, The White Lotus, and is set to join the Marvel universe in 2024’s Madame Web.
But the actor recently revealed that she auditions just like anyone else for her roles, and in fact, her Emmy-nominated turn in Euphoria hasn’t always been a handy stepping stone to other exciting projects.
Speaking to Variety, Sydney shared that the White Lotus team hadn’t originally thought she would be a good fit for her character Olivia Mossbacher.
“They didn’t think that I was right for White Lotus, because I did Euphoria,” she said. “So I put myself on tape, I auditioned for White Lotus just like everybody else and had a call back like everybody else.”
Sydney Sweeney’s latest film is in fact very different to her previous castings, as she takes on the role of whistleblower and ex-intelligence specialist Reality Winner in new movie Reality.
The HBO film has received rave reviews from critics, and allowed Sydney to break away from her previous ‘troubled teen’ characters. “There’s always people who see me as Cassie or see me as Olivia. They send me scripts that are just like that. It’s the ones I have to fight for that usually are the ones that I want that are different, like Reality,” she said.
She also spoke a little of her upcoming rom-com Anyone But You, co-starring Glen Powell.
“It was so much fun, honestly. We laughed every single day and the cast and the crew were just a bunch of really great people, and we all got along. It felt like summer camp. It was a great breather from everything else I’ve done,” she said.
“That was the first time I’ve done something like that. So I definitely enjoyed it. And I might look for some more.”
