Taylor Swift’s Ex Joe Jonas on What Their Relationship Is Really Like Now

Joe Jonas survived the release of Taylor Swift’s “From the Vault” Fearless bonus songs that were seemingly about their brief 2008 relationship. (“Mr. Perfectly Fine” and “You All Over Me,” which were written at the time, didn’t make the original album cut). With those songs out of the way, Jonas spoke honestly on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast about the current state of affairs between him and Swift.

“I’m cool with Taylor,” he said, via E!. “We’re cool.” He said generally of their drama—and the 25-second breakup call that enraged her fans, “it’s been many, many years removed.”

He also told Shepard that he hopes Swift’s fans have forgiven him by now. “I hope to think they like me. No one f*cks with the Swifties, you know?”

He added that the Jonas Brothers understand the Swifties’ protectiveness. “We don’t really have a nickname for [our fans] but … we get it,” Jonas said. “We understand they’re passionate about their artists and protective, like, ‘This is my artist, how dare you!’”

Jonas and his wife Sophie Turner, who is a Swiftie herself, supported Swift by attending her SNL after-party in 2021. Swift expressed her own remorse over speaking so publicly about how Jonas dumped her when she was 18 years old.

During Ellen DeGeneres’s Burning Questions game in 2019, Swift told the host that the most rebellious thing she did as a teenager was “probably when I put Joe Jonas on blast on your show. That was too much. Yeah, that was too much. I was 18. We laugh about it now. That was mouthy, yeah, teenage stuff there.”

Shortly after Swift’s 2019 comments went viral, Jonas responded during an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine show. Hearing his ex-girlfriend express her regrets “did feel nice,” he said. “It’s something that I probably was feeling pretty bad about when I was younger, but at the end of the day, like I’ve moved on. I’m sure Taylor’s moved on, and it feels nice, and we’re all friends, and it’s all good. We were so young.”
