The stars have always seemed to align for Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas. Little coincidences at first, and then, as Chopra revealed in a May 11 appearance on “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” the discovery that Jonas just so happened to be watching when she was crowned Miss World in 2000.
“My mother-in-law was like, ‘I remember watching you when you won,'” Chopra said. “I was in London. This is 2000. They were, I think, in Texas. I was like, ‘There’s no way.’ And she was like, ‘I remember it so clearly because it was November. Nick was on some Broadway show at 7 years old; his brother was on some Broadway show at 8 or 9.'”
According to Chopra, the family tuned into Miss World because Kevin Jonas Sr. — her now father-in-law — loved watching pageants, and he had the competition on when the middle Jonas brother unexpectedly sat down with him and watched Chopra win. “That was 22 years ago or something. He was 7. I was 17. And he was sitting there, and he was watching. It was so weird.”
“He was 7. I was 17. And he was sitting there, and he was watching.”
Chopra won the pageant after just turning 18, with no way of knowing that her future husband could be viewing the same moment on TV. Does she believe it to be destiny? “Maybe,” Chopra said. “I think that people collide because you’re supposed to create — on this small, short life that you have — memories that you will take forward . . . family,” she told Hudson. “I think Nick and I had through our lives these weird enchanted little moments, and it’s lovely now to have found your person.”
Call it fate, but fast forward to today, and the two are already nearing their fifth year of marriage. They also share a 1-year-old daughter, Malti.
