On the eve of what might be Donald Trump’s arrest, Jimmy Kimmel did not hold back, ripping into the former president turned potential convict during his Monday night Jimmy Kimmel Live! monologue. “It’s the calm before the Stormy,” Kimmel said with glee.
“Today is, as you probably know, the first official day of spring,” said Kimmel at the top of his monologue. “Can you feel it? The days are getting longer. Indictments are in the air. It’s really magical.”
Kimmel than broke down the reason for the spring in his step, noting that over the weekend, Trump said that he expects to be arrested Tuesday on charges stemming from his 2016 hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels. The former president then called on his supporters to “PROTEST” and “TAKE OUR NATION BACK.”
“Well, we already did take it back ― from you!” Kimmel said. “Now go away.”
Kimmel continued to blast the former president for going “totally Truth postal over the weekend,” highlighting comments that he made about America being “a dying, third world country,” the election being “stollen” (misspelled with two ll’s), and saying that the NYPD should refuse to arrest him. “He’s absolutely spinning out because he knows it’s Melania‘s birthday next weekend and she might actually get her wish,” Kimmel quipped.
The late night host called out “all the usual lowlives,” a.k.a Republican congressmen like Jim Jordan, Matt Gaetz, and Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, who have called Trump’s potential arrest a “witch hunt.” He also roasted former Vice President Mike Pence for weighing in “with words that are so profoundly meaningless, even if you were to print them out you’d still have a blank page.” Kimmel then aired a clip of Pence in an interview on ABC’s This Week saying, “Nobody’s above the law, but no one’s beneath the law either.”
“Has somebody been gnawing on mother’s scented candles again?” Kimmel asked. “That doesn’t make any sense.”
Kimmel ended his roast by noting how many of Trump’s current problems are due to his own incompetence. “So many of his legal problems are based on him being an idiot,” Kimmel said, highlighting Trump’s mounting issues in Georgia, his involvement in the Capitol riot, and the classified documents found at Mar-a-Lago. “In every case, the reason he is in trouble is because he is the dumbest criminal in the world. He’s Al Ca-bonehead.”
