When “Top Gun: Maverick” came out in May 2022 — over 30 years after the original Tom Cruise action flick hit theaters in 1986 — everyone knew it would be a hit. Somehow, though, it managed to exceed everyone’s expectations. Not only was the film a box office hit, becoming the top-grossing movie of 2022 domestically with $719 million in ticket sales, but it also snagged a whopping six Oscar nominations — including best picture.
The cast’s chemistry certainly played a major role. Besides the returning stars from the original movie, Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer, new cast members like Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Miles Teller, Glen Powell, Jay Ellis, and more rounded a cast with chemistry abound. That’s why fans of the movie were so excited to see them reunite at the Oscars on March 12, 2023.
