Coquette Nails Are Taking Off On TikTok

If you haven’t seen the coquette aesthetic steamroll in, just know it’s set to be huge for 2023. And, because we’re all about the details, it follows that coquette nails are on track to steal the spotlight from its predecessor’s like glazed donut nails and pearlescent nails

Defined by the dictionary as “a flirtatious woman,” or more specifically by Merriam Webster as “a woman who likes to win the attention or admiration of men but does not have serious feelings for them,” the trend leans into old-school femininity, but with a knowing edge. The trend, also throws it back to the 18th and 19th centuries and the regency era when women began to wittingly use seduction to their advantage. Think Bridgerton vibes. It’s a look that’s been referenced throughout the years, blending sultriness with innocence, but it’s most definitely had a renaissance. Already “coquette” has had over 7 billion views on TikTok and “coquetteaesthetic” has scooped up a further 1.4 billion.

Beauty-wise, this means fluttery lashes, elongated liner and blushing cheeks. Elsewhere, it draws on soft pastels like pink and lilac, and hyper-femininity with bows, hearts, lace and pearls.

For manis we’ve seen the key elements made modern with strong, sharp and XXL nail shapes as well as the viral glazed donut base. We’ve even seen some of 2023’s biggest nail trends like 3D nails taking the aesthetic to the next level.

Case in point is Melanie from Overglowedit’s sexy-sweet pearl-pink mani which she captioned, “just girly things 🎀💕🍰”. It incorporates tonal soft pink Frenchies alongside statement appliqué thanks to a pretty bow and a gemstone heart surrounded by a halo of pearls.

Elsewhere we’ve seen nudes and glitter offer up dainty-delicate combos, silky-soft polishes adding a glossy finish and cutesy clouds and crystals that add femininity. Here’s some of our favourite ways to wear coquette nails…
