‘DAM’: South Africa’s Showmax Readies Season 2 Of Buzzy Psychological Thriller And Releases Trailer

EXCLUSIVE: South African streamer Showmax is readying the second season of small-town psychological thriller DAM and the first trailer is above.

The streamer said DAM season one was one of its top 10 most-watched titles of 2021 and the most-nominated drama series at the South African SAFTAs.

Created by four-time SAFTA winner Alex Yazbek, the psychological thriller’s first season followed main character Yola as she returned to the Eastern Cape farmhouse of her childhood after her father’s death and soon found spirits, or her own mind, tormenting her.

Season two is set three months after the Spring Festival. The ritual sacrifice of the cult from season one seems to have worked, with rain coming and the land transforming, and main character Yola has no memory of anything since her return for her father’s funeral. She’s forced to put the missing pieces together to discover diamonds, mass graves and monster surfaces in the dam.

Lea Vivier and Pallance Dladla return in their SAFTA-nominated roles as Yola and Themba, with Natasha Loring reprizing her SAFTA-winning role as Yola’s sister, Sienna.

Deadline revealed late last year that Showmax had commissioned a Nigerian adaptation of South African telenovela The River and the streamer recently premiered Nigerian police procedural Crime and Justice Lagos.

A Showmax Original made in partnership with Picture Tree, DAM season 2 is expected to launch in the first quarter of this year.
