Sophia Nomvete: ‘I am a fuller-figured, mixed race woman in a world that has not necessarily seen me’

Sophia Nomvete made an entrance on the GLAMOUR Women Of The Year Awards 2022, in partnership with Samsung, red carpet on Tuesday night. Where there was a sea of (admittedly) achingly-chic black gowns and power suits making an appearance, Sophia stood out in a burst of vivid yellow florals.

The Rings Of Power actress evidently wasn’t opting for shy and retiring when she put her look together. Instead she assembled an elite glam squad to help her create an ensemble that was bold, open and utterly joyful.

But besides giving us a dose of dopamine dressing, the gown had an even more sentimental place in Sophia’s heart. “I am a fuller-figured, mixed race woman in a world that has not necessarily seen me, or had space for us before,” she explained to GLAMOUR. “And today, I stand here in a Richard Quinn [dress] no less, feeling really, really beautiful and really seen and embraced and included,” she said.

“It’s a real time for me, learning all of the brand names that I’d never really known. I’ve never entered – or would ever see myself – in this world, so this is a really huge, iconic moment for me and the child in me, for sure. I feel very empowered and safe and excited.”
