Kate Hudson went full mermaidcore in a lavender bandeau and sequins

When your long blonde waves reach your waist, be like Kate Hudson: Lean into mermaidcore

The 43-year-old, who stars alongside Daniel Craig, Janelle Monáe and Kathryn Hahn in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, walked the red carpet at the Madrid premiere of the Rian Johnson film in a Halpern halter dress that could make Ariel drool.

The ruched lavender bandeau, secured by a sequin halter strap, paired with the high-waisted sequin skirt, is very much giving “she just got her legs.” Seriously, if you’re looking for a high-fashion mermaid costume this Halloween…

With the help of her longtime stylist Sophie Lopez, Hudson played up the underwater aesthetic with a fistful of sparkling gems, including stacked rings with emerald cut stones, a dazzling bracelet, and a single statement earring. Hudson tucked her long blonde hair into a sleek ponytail which hung down her back and kept her makeup soft and subtle.

Mermaidcore seems to be the hottest red carpet trend since sheer fabric was invented, with stars like Amanda Seyfried also embracing form-fitting sparkles. The trend is also popular in the world of beauty—think a glossy glow, shimmery finishes, and, of course, hair (or extensions) in undone, imperfect waves that seem to flow on forever.

And if you think Kate Hudson’s look is divine, let me remind you that Disney’s live action remake of The Little Mermaid, with Halle Bailey in the titular role, is coming soon. Maybe send Hudson a red carpet invite? Just a thought.
