New Trailer For ‘Black Panther’ Sequel Teases More Dimensions Of Wakanda

Disney has released a new trailer for its highly anticipated Marvel sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which opens November 11.

The original film, released in 2018, was a global smash. It earned more than $1.3 billion in box office along with almost universally positive notices. The release marked a milestone in terms of a film with a Black cast and from a Black director (Ryan Coogler) reaching such commercial heights.

Coogler is back behind the camera for the sequel. The latest trailer (watch it above) offers a more detailed look at the visually rich environments of the film’s fictional worlds. Per the official logline: “Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira) and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba) fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda.Introducing Tenoch Huerta as Namor, king of Talokan, the film also stars Dominique Thorne, Michaela Coel, Mabel Cadena and Alex Livinalli.”

You need not be a Marvel zealot to get misty-eyed at one sight in the trailer. The camera lingers at one point on a large, billboard-sized image of the fallen King T’Challa, who was played by Chadwick Boseman. The actor died of cancer in August 2020 at just 43.

Last month, in Anaheim, Boseman was honored at D23’s Disney Legends induction ceremony, with his brother Derrick Boseman speaking on his behalf. “I wish he was here to receive [this award],” lamented Boseman’s brother. “Him not being here has been a point of immense pain for my whole family.”
