King Charles got upset at a leaky pen, and the video went viral

Is it me? Am I the drama? Nah. According to recent reports, that title belongs to a leaky pen that somehow found its way into the hands of King Charles III

The monarch was filmed getting visibly frustrated over an uncooperative pen during a book signing in Northern Ireland on 13 September. “I can’t bear this bloody thing,” Charles can be heard saying, before passing the disgraced writing utensil to his wife Camilla, Queen Consort. “Every stinking time,” he adds, pulling a handkerchief out of his pocket to wipe his hands. A video of the moment posted by CBS news already has 14 million views.

In contrast to her husband, Camilla remained calm, cool, and collected, even as she uttered, “It’s going everywhere.” Luckily, staff in black suits were able to intervene and retrieve the offending pen before more ink was spilled.

In fairness to King Charles, it makes sense if he’s a tad tightly wound at the moment. It’s not yet been a week since his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died at 96 years old, resulting in Charles’s ascension to the throne. At 73, he’s taking on a brand-new job (no pressure!) while simultaneously grieving the loss of his beloved mum.

We are six days into a 10-day mourning period, which will conclude on Monday 19 September, with the Queen’s funeral.
