Is anyone else counting down the days until Harry Styles and Emma Corrin’s new film, My Policeman, comes out? Luckily, we have plenty of insider details to keep you updated in the meantime, including some glorious first-look pictures of the cast on set – and finally, a full-length trailer.
We’d previously only been treated to a clip, which didn’t give away too much, but we see Harry (as Tom), Emma (as Marion) and David Dawson (Patrick) in some beautifully-shot scenes – including Tom and Marion sharing a kiss as husband and wife on their wedding day, and a fleeting romantic moment between Patrick and Tom.
An audio clip from a scene in an art gallery narrates the teaser, in which Patrick asks Tom of a painting: “So how does it make you feel?” to which he replies: “I can sense the waves, you know how strong they are. Swimming in rough surf.”
Patrick adds: “You feel they could crush you, or take you under. You just have to let it take hold of you.” Cryptic.
Here’s everything we know about My Policeman so far…
What is My Policeman about?
My Policeman is based on Bethan Roberts’ 2012 novel of the same name, which has been adapted by Ron Nyswaner and directed by Michael Grandage. Set in Brighton in the 1950s and 1990s, it follows Tom (played by Harry Styles and Linus Roache) who has the unenviable task of being a gay policeman, during a time when homosexuality was illegal in the UK.
Despite being in love with another man, Patrick (played by David Dawson and Rupert Everett), Tom gets married to Marion (played by Emma Corrin and Gina McKee). A decades-long love triangle ensues.
In a interview with Vanity Fair, Michael Grandage discussed the film’s sex scenes, saying they were choreographed to “quite literally show something that was about ‘lovemaking’ in the broadest sense of the word, something that was choreographically interesting and not just some kind of thrusting sense of sex going on.”
