Just when you thought the 2022 MTV VMAs red carpet couldn’t get anymore PHWOAR, Lili Reinhart enters the chat.
The Riverdale actor turned up in a sheer black lace gown, perfectly encapsulating the biggest fashion trend of the evening: dark, moody, gothic glam. And it’s giving early-2000s emo kid nostalgia.

The star paired her look with straight slicked-down hair, nude lips, a smokey brown eye and diamond drop earrings. Not to mention her best-in-the-bizz brows which, if this were 2019, we would be so bold as to call “on fleek” (sorry).
It’s Lili’s biggest red carpet appearance since the Met Gala back in May, when the actor made headlines for seemingly calling out Kim Kardashian’s dramatic weight loss to fit into Marilyn Monroe‘s iconic gown.
“So wrong. So fucked on 100s of levels,” she wrote on Instagram. “To openly admit to starving yourself for the sake of the Met Gala. When you know very well that millions of young men and women are looking up to you and listening to your every word.”
Lili continued: “The ignorance is other-worldly and disgusting. Please stop supporting these stupid, harmful celebrities whose entire image revolves around their bodies. I am not generally an angry person but I swear to god, the toxicity of this industry sometimes really gets to me and I have to do my little Instagram-story rants to release my rage.”
In a recent interview with IndieWire, Lili addressed the comments, saying: “I definitely go on rants on social media, I’m very guilty of that. I don’t like to just sit idly by, I don’t like to keep my mouth shut. I know people on Twitter hate me. There are articles and everyone is like, ‘God, does this girl ever shut up and stop complaining?’ No, actually, I don’t, because I’ve got a lot to say and no one else really seems to be.”
