The Weeknd has shared a new teaser for his upcoming HBO Max series The Idol. The show—set in “the gutters of Hollywood,” as the new clip points out—centers on a female pop singer (Lily-Rose Depp) as she becomes romantically involved with a Los Angeles club owner and cult leader. Abel Tesfaye stars in the series, which he produced and co-wrote. The new trailer does not list a release date, but it does reveal a whole new slate of cast members, including Moses Sumney, Mike Dean, Dan Levy, Rachel Sennott, Hank Azaria, Hari Nef, and more. The new clip debuted at the Weeknd’s concert in Las Vegas last night, as Stereogum points out. Watch it below.

The Idol was first announced last summer. Tesfaye co-created the series with producing partner Reza Fahim, while showrunner Joseph Epstein co-wrote the script with the singer. Euphoria director Sam Levinson serves as co-executive producer alongside Ashley Levinson, Kevin Turen, and Aaron L. Gilbert.

Last fall, HBO announced that Troye Sivan, TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe, Anne Heche, Suzanna Son, Melanie Liburd, Steve Zissis, Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, and Nico Hiraga would star in The Idol with Depp and Tesfaye. Several of the cast members were revealed in the show’s first trailer.

The Weeknd is currently on the road for his 2022 North American tour in support of his latest album Dawn FM.
