Over the weekend, both Fleet Foxes and Blood Orange covered the same song by the Strokes, “Under Control” from their 2003 album Room on Fire, during separate headlining shows in New York City. Blood Orange played it at Baby’s All Right on Friday night (August 12) with help from Eva Tolkin. Fleet Foxes covered the song that following evening (August 13) at Forest Hills Stadium with opener Uwade joining in on vocals. Watch both covers below, as captured by fan Patrick Nevada.

Fleet Foxes are currently on tour in support of their Grammy-nominated 2020 album Shore. It’s the band’s first trek since their shows behind 2017’s Crack-Up. Joining Robin Pecknold on the dates are traditional Fleet Foxes members Skyler Skjelset, Casey Wescott, Christian Wargo, and Morgan Henderson.

Devonté Hynes’ most recent album under the Blood Orange moniker was his 2019 mixtape Angel’s Pulse. Since then, he’s stayed busy remixing songs for Tame Impala and Sugababes, hopping on the Avalanches’ comeback single “We Will Always Love You,” and collaborating with L.A.-based artist 박혜진 Park Hye Jin on the song “CALL ME (Freestyle).”

The Strokes latest album, The New Abnormal, came out in 2020. The band has been on tour promoting the album this summer, including a stop at Primavera Sound where Tame Impala covered their hit “Last Nite.” Back in June, Julian Casablancas sold a stake in the Strokes’ catalog for an undisclosed sum to Primary Wave.
