We all have our thoughts about Chantel Everett and Pedro Jimeno’s bitter divorce.
Of course we do. If they weren’t a messy couple with drama-filled lives, they wouldn’t be on reality television.
But some people know them better than others, and don’t view them through the lens of family.
Remember their old friend, Obed? He has some thoughts about this divorce.
Obed Corporan is a familiar face to longtime The Family Chantel viewers.
This week, he opened up to In Touch Weekly about Pedro’s “surprise” divorce filing earlier this year.
“To be honest with you, I was not” surprised, Obed admitted.
“I did feel sad when Chantel told me,” Obed expressed.
“But I felt sad for her,” he added.
“And,” Obed continued, he felt sad for “the situation she had to deal with.”
“She didn’t deserve that,” Obed emphasized of Chantel.
“I would never think it was her fault,” he quickly assured.
Obed then characterized Chantel: “She’s the sweetest.”
We all first met Obed when he appeared on The Family Chantel‘s first season, as a friend of the couple.
“In 2014, I used to date Pedro’s best friend,” he explained of how he met them.
“And became his friend,” Obed shared, “as I thought he was a nice guy.”
“Chantel was also my ex’s friend,” Obed detailed.
“And,” he explained, “that’s how I ended up being friends with her too.”
That makes sense. Remember, Chantel and Pedro have been together for a long time.
We all recall how Obed warned Chantel that Pedro’s mother and sister, Lidia and Nicole, were scheming.
He believed that they had hoped that Pedro would marry an American girl — any American girl — as a ploy.
Their endgame would be for him to live in the US and send money home.
Obed shared in this interview that he was hesitant to appear on the show.
“I felt a little bit scared at first,” he recalled.
Obed explained: “because before filming, I’ve never had any previous experience in front of cameras.”
He continued: “And shows as big as 90 Day Fiance and The Family Chantel.”
“So,” Obed reasoned, “I didn’t really know what to expect.”
He went on: “But after I met the crew and realized that there was no acting involved, I started to feel more comfortable.”
“As it was just two friends having a conversation,” Obed characterized.
He added: “with the only detail of dealing with a lot of cameras around us.”
With that experience under his belt, Obed commented: “I would love to be in a reality tv show again.”
“Even though I was labeled as the villain in Chantel and Pedro’s love story,” Obed acknowledged.
“After 90 Day Fiance and The Family Chantel,” he described, “I ended up loving the experience and wanting to do it again.”
Well, we wish Obed luck. With Chantel and Pedro enjoined by court order from interacting, The Family Chantel‘s future remains unclear.
