Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott face backlash over matching private jets

Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott are in hot water yet again.

Earlier in July, the reality star took to Instagram – the land of filtered bodies and “aspirational” luxury – to share a pic of two private jets that are supposedly at the couples’ disposal. Kylie and Travis can be seen embracing between the planes in the photo, which is captioned, “You wanna take mine or yours?”

And now, it’s been revealed just what the impact of their short hops on private jets might be having on the environment. One Twitter account that tracks celebrity travel shared that Kylie’s flight on 12 July lasted just 17 minutes, taking her from Van Nuys in Los Angeles to the town of Camarillo. She had apparently also taken a 27-minute flight earlier on.

The Guardian reports that Kylie’s 17-minute jet trip amounts to about a quarter of the total annual carbon footprint of the average person globally. It would have taken her around 40 minutes in a car, causing a fraction of the emissions.

The Kylie Cosmetics mogul has always flaunted her access to ridiculous amounts of money that fund closets full of Birkins and other lavish expenses. In fact, this is not even the first sighting of her private jet on her feed. According to Page Six, Kylie purchased “Kylie Air” in 2020 for around $70 million and fashioned it with a whole lot of neon, a full bar, and Hermes blankets over every seat.

Of course, critics have called out Kylie Jenner before over her vast displays of wealth and privilege, but many feel owning two private planes – even between significant others – is simply obscene, especially during a global climate crisis.

“Maybe take neither’s and reduce your carbon footprint,” one user replied in Jenner’s comment section, while another wrote, “Why do I have to limit my meat consumption and use paper straws while the 1% gets to pump tons of carbon into the atmosphere for a day trip to Palm Springs?”
