Beanie Feldstein to Miss Even More Funny Girl Performances Due to Tonsillitis

Beanie Feldstein just can’t catch a break, announcing a week after she revealed she would be leaving the production two months early that she’ll miss even more performances of Funny Girl due to tonsillitis.

The Broadway star shared a video on her Instagram account on Friday, joking, “Hey everybody, I’m just checking in. What have I missed? What’s been going on?” She then revealed that she will have to miss all of her shows for the rest of the week because, “I just got back from the ear, nose and throat doctor, who told me that I have tonsillitis, which is extremely contagious, and she cannot allow me to go back onstage through the weekend until I have enough antibiotics in my system to not be contagious anymore.” Feldstein added, “The last thing I would want on this earth is to get the people that I love sick, and I just am not allowed to go onstage through the weekend. I cannot wait to do my last two weeks… and, you just gotta laugh at a certain point. When it rains, it pours on your old pal Bean.”

This bad news comes just one week after the actress announced that she will be exiting Funny Girl two months earlier than originally expected. She previously said that her final performance would be on September 25, but on Instagram she confirmed that date has been moved up to July 31st. “Playing Fanny Brice on Broadway has been a lifelong dream of mine, and doing so for the last few months has been a great joy and true honor,” Feldstein began her post. “Once the production decided to take the show in a different direction, I made the extremely difficult decision to step away sooner than anticipated. I will never forget this experience and from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank every single person who came to the August Wilson for the love and support you have shown me and our amazing cast and crew.”

The day after that post, it was revealed that Lea Michele would be taking over the lead role of Fanny Brice. Following the announcement, the actress wrote on Instagram, “A dream come true is an understatement. I’m so incredibly honored to join this amazing cast and production and return to the stage playing Fanny Brice on Broadway. See you September 6th.”
