Marvel‘s latest coming-of-age series, “Ms. Marvel,” represents a whole lot more than the classic superhero origin story. The action-packed series, which premiered on June 8, puts its own spin on Kamala Khan‘s character — the Muslim and Pakistani American teen superfan-turned-superhero from the Marvel Comics — with a refreshing push around mainstream Muslim representation.
“I grew up listening to South Asian music, and I love South Asian music, and there’s such incredible artists across the board in Pakistan and India, and I wanted to really try to celebrate that.”
Starring 19-year-old actor Iman Vellani, “Ms. Marvel” chronicles the adventures of its dynamic titular character, and the show’s soundtrack highlights those escapades with a banging tracklist. Not only does “Ms. Marvel” make sure to show off Kamala’s rich heritage, but the soundtrack is the result of a mission to spotlight South Asian music, too.
In an interview with POPSUGAR, “Ms. Marvel” creator Sana Amanat revealed that she curated a special Kamala playlist filled with songs that eventually made it on the show. “I grew up listening to South Asian music, and I love South Asian music, and there’s such incredible artists across the board in Pakistan and India, and I wanted to really try to celebrate that,” she said.
Between upbeat pop songs by artists like The Weeknd and M.I.A. to a mixture of tracks by South Asian artists, “Ms. Marvel”‘s soundtrack has a little bit of everything for viewers to enjoy. Ahead, listen to every song featured in the superhero series so far.
