Rift or no rift, if there is one thing that Prince Harry and Prince Williamare always on the same page about, it’s their mother, Princess Diana. At this year’s virtual Diana Award ceremony, on what would have been the much-loved royal’s 61st birthday, Harry gave a touching speech about his mother’s legacy, which he said he sees reflected in his own children.
The Diana Award, named for the People’s Princess, is given to young philanthropists every year. Speaking to this year’s honorees, 180 young people between the ages of 9 and 25 from across the globe, via video message, Prince Harry said, “I see her legacy in all of you.”
He continued, “I see her legacy in a Diana Award community that spans multiple generations. I see her legacy every time I meet with families, young people, and children from all corners of the world. And I see my mum’s legacy when I look at my own children every day.”

Prince William also addressed this year’s Diana Award recipients, writing to them in a letter, “You truly are the personification of my mother’s legacy and I know she would be so proud of you all.” The letter continued, “I believe there’s no better way to celebrate her life and work than through recognising incredible people who dedicate so much time and effort to helping those around them.”
The honour was inspired by Princess Diana—who was a dedicated activist and philanthropist—and her belief that young people have the power to change the world. In difficult days such as these, the world needs dedicated change makers from the next generation more than ever.
