Queen Elizabeth Recovers from COVID and Spends Some Time With Her Grandchildren

After isolating for a little over a week following her positive COVID-19 diagnosis, Queen Elizabeth is finally getting out and enjoying the fresh air, as well as some quality time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The monarch was reportedly feeling well enough over the weekend to host a little family reunion right in her backyard at Windsor Castle, per the Daily Mail. On Sunday, she invited Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—to join her in taking in a little sunshine outside of Frogmore House, one of the buildings on the grounds of the castle. There, they were also joined by Princess Beatrice and her infant daughter Sienna.

And the queen is clearly on the mend as after that visit, she also made her first public appearance since contracting the virus, holding two virtual meetings from Windsor Castle on Tuesday. Buckingham Palace has not made any official statements regarding the royal’s health, however, a source confirmed to People that “the Queen will continue with other duties and has private engagements scheduled.” While recovering from coronavirus, the monarch was able to continue conducting her weekly audience by telephone with U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson, but she had to cancel her scheduled virtual meetings due to lingering “mild cold-like symptoms,” including a “croaky” voice.

The Queen is widely reported to be fully vaccinated, but seems to have first been exposed to the virus in early February when her son Prince Charles paid a visit to Windsor Castle for an investiture ceremony just two days before he tested positive for coronavirus for the second time. Days after he went into self-isolation, his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall also tested positive despite being triple vaccinated. But the Prince of Wales’s health also seems much improved since then as he paid a visit to Southend-on-Sea, England on Tuesday where he delivered a speech denouncing Russia’s current attacks on Ukraine.
