These New York Fashion Week street style looks are bringing *all* the outfit inspo

While the catwalks taking place in New York right now are forecasting the trends for autumn, the street style looks are providing some much more current inspo for those of us feeling a little lacklustre about our winter wardrobes.

The weather may have felt a little brighter in the UK earlier this month, but as things start to get rainier – and with over a month to go until spring (32 days, to be precise) – it’s time to put all thoughts of light jackets and fun sandals (sigh) aside for now, and put our energy into more practical looks.

While the big apple may have enjoyed a touch more sunshine than us over recent days there’s been very little in the way of warm weather, meaning that you can quite literally copy and paste your favourite looks over on this side of the pond.

Naturally there is endless outerwear inspo, with everything from puffer jackets and faux fur to duster-length trench coats and belted maxis taking centre stage.

But there is beauty in the smaller details, too. From woollen winter whites to tangy bursts of neon, cleverly-layered shirting and mid-calf boots, there’s sartorial inspiration everywhere you look on the streets outside the shows right now.

One of the most popular accessories to note, though, is the knitted hood. Not only is it a bang on trend look right now, but it’s also perfect for those days where you realise last minute that you’ve run out of dry shampoo…

Ahead of London Fashion Week – which kicks off on Friday – now is the perfect time to experiment with your winter wardrobe and try your hand at new trends championed by the best dressed street style stars. If anyone questions the look, gently remind them that “it’s called fashion. Look it up.”
