Zoë Kravitz Is “Still Learning Who” She Is After Divorce From Her “Incredible” Ex Karl Glusman

Zoë Kravitz is on a journey of self-discovery following her divorce from her husband of 18 months and partner of five years, Karl Glusman.

In a new cover story for Elle, the actress opened up a little about the end of her marriage and filing for divorce in January 2021. “Karl’s an incredible human being,” she said. “It really is less about him and more about me learning how to ask myself questions about who I am and still learning who I am, and that being okay. That’s the journey I’m on right now.” The former couple first began dating in October 2016 and wed in June 2019 in a small ceremony at her father Lenny Kravitz‘s Parisian home.

Despite those personal travails, Kravitz says she feels like she’s now entered “the sweet spot” of her life. But even so, she admits that being a woman in her 30s comes with its own set of existential questions and difficulties. “We all go from being the baby, where you’re like, ‘I have so much time.’ And then, all of a sudden, your gynecologist is like, ‘Want to freeze your eggs?’ And I’m like, ‘I hadn’t even thought about that,’” the High Fidelity star explained. “But I don’t feel pressured to have kids by a certain time, if I ever have kids. This idea of like, you’re 30. You’re a grown-up. Now you’re supposed to have kids and stop having fun, because that’s for children — I bought that for a second. It was like, ‘I don’t go out anymore. I just make roast chickens.’ But I still want to go on adventures, have fun nights, and see the sunrise. It’s been an interesting journey of remembering that there’s no finish line that I have to get to by a certain time. Playful, mischievous behavior is something I always hope to have, even when I’m 70 years old. The point of being alive is to experience life and play with it. There’s still so much fun to be had.”

And Kravitz is definitely having fun. When asked about “the ear-to-ear smile” on her face in paparazzi photos with her rumored boyfriend Channing Tatum, she cryptically confirmed, “I’m happy.” In terms of her outlook on the future of her love life in general, she added, “I feel optimistic about life, and I think that comes hand in hand with it. All my relationships in life — my friendships, my romantic relationships, my family — the journey is learning how to show up honestly. Sometimes we can’t show up, and that’s okay as long as we know how to communicate that we love those people. That’s the 20-year-old who’s like, ‘I can do it all. I can do it all. I can do it all.’ And now I’m in a place where whatever I’m feeling is okay, wherever I’m at is okay.”
