Demi Lovato is looking for a fresh start—and they started with a dramatic hair change.
Lovato has been inching closer and closer to the shaved head look since chopping their hair into a short blonde pixie cut back in November 2020. They moved on to a bubblegum pink shade before cropping the look even shorter and rocking baby bangs in February 2021. Throughout the year, they transitioned back to their classic deep brunette as they let the pixie grow out.
Now, however, the “Stone Cold” singer has seriously committed to short hair by completely shaving their head. Lovato shared a look at their fresh buzz cut on December 25, captioning the Instagram video, “Shot on FaceTime by @angelokritikos 🖤 #freshstart.” Obsessed.

This is not the only commitment Demi Lovato has made in December 2021. Early this month, the singer revealed they were no longer “California sober” after first declaring that drinking in moderation and smoking week was a part of their plan to manage their sobriety following an overdose in 2018. “Telling myself that I can never have a drink or smoke marijuana, I feel like that’s setting myself up for failure because I am such a black-and-white thinker,” Lovato said in their YouTube series Dancing With the Devil in March 2021.
They expanded on this viewpoint in US Glamour‘s March cover story. “A one-size-fits-all solution does not work for everybody,” Lovato said, later adding, “What I’m encouraging people to do is just make choices for themselves. Autonomy, for me, is what changed my life.”
Lovato even has a song on their seventh studio album called “California Sober.” They sing on the track, “Used to live in fear of always slipping, / But living for perfection isn’t living. / I ran a little slower, now I’m tripping. / A beautiful and magical beginning.”
Now, they have changed their outlook. “I no longer support my ‘California sober’ ways,” Lovato wrote on their Instagram Story on December 2. “Sober sober is the only way to be.”
Here’s to a fresh start.
