We still have a good few weeks to go, but there’s no time like the present to start thinking about those Christmas party dresses. New Look has revealed a 2,700% increase in searches for Christmas party dresses compared to this time last year(!), and now we’re back in the office at least once a week, the joy of planning social events has very much been reinstated. Thank goodness, we were starting to worry we’d never embarrass ourselves in front of our boss ever again.
The best part? You can keep said dress, jumpsuit or power suit and don it all over again for New Years Eve or use it for your wedding guest attire – a party outfit is not just for wearing the once, folks. December weekends get booked up like there’s no tomorrow and invites to romantic restaurants, bottomless brunches and cocktail parties come flooding in – even more so this year after the shambles that was 2020. It’s time to grab those heels (and scarves) and pick out an ensemble for them all.
Sequin dresses never go amiss. There’s just something perfectly simplistic yet wonderfully decadent about them, and there’s nothing more essential for your wardrobe than the addition of one as we approach party season. Deciding what to wear to each event throughout the festive period can be daunting, but a sequin dress (or three) is a sure-fire winner. They’re low-maintenance in that you can just slip them over a pair of tights and wear them with some strappy sandals, but they’re easily the most impactful item you’ll own.
Wearing something sparkly – be it through embellishments like sequins or fabrics such as satin and velvet – is guaranteed to achieve an all-eyes-on-you effect. Exactly the reaction you want, in our opinion. Something like this floral jacquard puff sleeve wrap dress from River Island, which takes little black dresses to the next level, is perfect for your next soiree, or Retrofête’s embellished Gabrielle dress.
If you’re looking for something in the non-dress department, ASOS DESIGN’s satin halterneck backless jumpsuit is oh-so Christmassy – just add some statement earrings to finish – as is Monsoon’s Piper jumpsuit. Just looking at the neckline alone puts us in the spirit.
