The V.F. Index: What to Wear and Listen to This Month

A chic update on a beloved watch, a dazzling new album, and more!

First FROST

Photograph by Chase Middleton.

When watchmaker Audemars Piguet began its collaboration with jeweler Carolina Bucci in 2016, she applied her signature Florentine finish—a technique of hand-beating the metal, leaving a matte texture that catches light like a faceted jewel—to petite iterations of the brand’s best- selling Royal Oak watches. This year’s collection features a white gold version of the model with a larger, more traditionally masculine dial, providing subtle bling, no gems necessary. Shine on.

Between the Lines

Guitarist Adam Granduciel of the War on Drugs shares inspirations behind the band’s new album, I Don’t Live Here Anymore.

“WHO’S YOUR GUARDIAN,” BY THE BUILDING
The 2017 song inspired “the space and whammy action on ‘Living Proof.’ ”

THE GODFATHER
“Time moves so effin’ slow in the studio, so Shawn [Everett, coproducer] would always play movies without sound while working. Once he put on The Godfather, then I had a guitar idea for the end of ‘Occasional Rain.’ By the time I had finished this 14-second part, we were halfway through Godfather 2.”

THE COLLECTED POEMS OF BOB KAUFMAN
“I carried the collection around with me for years, often just turning to a random page while writing for inspiration or guidance—always psychedelic, hilarious, and strange.”

Good NATURED

A sweater vest serving Smokey Bear vibes and rugged flannel
fit right into the lush landscapes that mark autumn, inspiring their wearers to escape and unplug. To quote our favorite woodland creature, Lorde: “Can you reach me? No you can’t!”

Catch fall colors in person and in the two-part special “Born in the Rockies,” part of the 40th anniversary season of Nature, out this month from PBS.
