We’re calling it: Squid Game is going to dominate Halloween this year – here’s how to recreate your favourite character’s look

If the characters from Netflix’s Squid Game don’t dominate Halloween costumes this year, we’ll eat our honeycomb Dalgona Candy.

For those who haven’t watched, the nine-part thriller, which was written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, is all about a deathly survival game, which enrols the most desperate and debt-riddled citizens of Seoul, luring them in with a life-changing cash prize of ₩45.6 billion (£28m). In the series, 450 people participate in a series of popular playground games including tug-of-war and marbles. However, it quickly becomes clear that this is far from child’s play when the participants realise that they’ve put their lives on the line, with a loss resulting in immediate – and brutal – death.

As well as the eery juxtaposition of innocent children’s game and gory murders, there’s plenty to be scared of – including the characters themselves. From the frightening Darth Vader-esque Front Man, to the guards in utilitarian red jumpsuits and masks with ominous shapes painted on, to the Red Light/Green Light robot girl from one of the games, there’s plenty of fear-inducing options when it comes to choosing your Halloween costume.

Not only that, but there’s plenty of opportunity to amp up your costume with special effects and props in accordance with the events of the show. If you’re thinking of dressing up as North Korean defector (and skilled pickpocket) Sae-byeok Kang, who is played by model and actress HoYeon Jung, you could (spoiler alert!) glue a pretend shard of glass to your outfit to recreate the scene from the penultimate episode.

Or why not try your hand at some transformative makeup looks? TikTok is going wild for scary doll makeup, painting on wide eyes and pursed lips to recreate the character.

Or for any real makeup aficionados, give this impressive transformation by makeup artist Lisa B a go to channel your inner Front Man.

Otherwise, there’s plenty of prop options to complete your costume, from a bag of marbles, to a pair of fresh white trainers
