Charlie Chooses: The 7 high street buys you should add to your shopping list, according to our Fashion Editor

As many of us begin to spend more and more time in the office, I’m finding the prospect of a more formal wardrobe surprisingly appealing. I’ve never been into super fitted tailoring, and these slouchy, wide-leg trousers are top of my list. I’ll be wearing them with crisp white t-shirts and heavy boots until spring.

4. The white ballet flats

Ballet flats have been back on the fashion world’s agenda for a good few seasons, but thanks to my love of a more substantial shoe I’ve so far remained unconvinced. This super chic white pair, however, may have done the job. I love the nostalgic strap across the top, and would wear these with a pleated midi skirt.

5. The textured midi dress

As you’ll likely know by now green comes very high up on my list of preferred colours, but more often it’s more muted, olive shades that steal my heart. Right now, however, I’m into this rich Granny Smith green, and I love the casual cut of this midi. The front pleats and frayed trim perfectly relax the more formal shape.

6. The quilted black coat

I’ve mentioned it before, but I’m very much into the quilted coat as a chicer alternative to the traditional puffer jacket. This black number is the perfect knee-length with a super flattering belt-tie, and I particularly appreciate the lack of grid-worked quilting across the pockets which creates an unusual focal point.

7. The chunky mid-calf boots

You didn’t think I’d get through an autumnal edit without a chunky boot, did you? While I’ve so far swayed towards an ankle boot more so than a knee-high, this mid-calf incarnation has caught me a little off-guard with its temptation. This height looks best with a mini skirt, so that’s the next look to brace myself for.
