To say Toby Aromolaran and Chloe Burrows were at the bottom of the fan favourites list of this year’s Love Island couples would be a pretty fair statement just a couple of weeks ago. However, it looks like the islanders have made a compete U-turn in the eyes of viewers, with many now backing the couple to win the season.
Yep, that’s right. Fans of the show were impressed by the way both Chloe and Toby handled a recent situation between their fellow islanders Liberty and Jake. Chloe – who had few fans in the early weeks of the show – quickly cemented a status as one of this season’s favourite girls after joining islander Faye in sticking up for Liberty.
Earlier in the week, Jake had told his now girlfriend Liberty that he loved her but just like viewers on the outside, the islanders weren’t convinced that he was being genuine – especially the girls. Like a true friend, Chloe (alongside Faye) spoke up, explaining that she believed he was only saying the three magic words because he felt forced to do so.
Similarly, Toby (who let’s face it, we’ve had our ups and downs with) was also praised by viewers for the way in which he supported Jake through the situation. His maturity and Chloe’s display of girl code have won the hearts of the nation, making the two a lot more popular than they’ve been throughout the season.
In fact, on the night of the episode in question, several fans took to Twitter to share their support. Here’s what they had to say about the whole Jiberty debacle.
Others were also hedging their bits that the pair will win, and they’re not the only ones. On Sunday night’s Love Island Aftersun show, TV and radio host Will Njobvu said: “I can’t believe I’m saying this, but they could win it.” Artist Ella Henderson and DJ and presenter Arielle Free, who were also on the panel alongside Will, weren’t so sure, but judging by the public’s reaction, we reckon they could be in with a chance.
TBF, they do seem besotted with one another. Our hearts could hardly cope when they started sharing pasta in the dinner date episode, and other Twitter users have likened it to the Lady and the Tramp scene.
Toby’s family are also backing the pair. Speaking to The Sun On Sunday, Toby’s mum Victoria said: “I love her – I think she’s a laugh. She would just fit in so well. She doesn’t take things too seriously and she would just enjoy it in this house.
“I can’t wait to meet her to be honest with you. We always go on holiday together. She’ll be more than welcome to come with us.”
