Director David F. Sandberg’s Wife Confirms She Will Appear In Shazam 2

Shazam! director David F. Sandberg’s wife, actress Lotta Losten, has confirmed she will return in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Sandberg’s first Shazam! movie premiered in 2019, becoming an instant hit among fans due to its light-hearted tone and action-packed narrative. The movie chronicled the story of a troubled orphan, Billy Batson (Asher Angel), who develops the ability to transform into an adult superhero (Zachary Levi). With his new strengths, Billy empowers his foster siblings, and together they take down the cunning Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong) and the Seven Deadly Sins. Shazam! proved to be a decent commercial success for the DCEU, and a sequel was cited for development soon after its premiere. Shazam! 2 is due to arrive on June 2, 2023.

Titled Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the sequel marks the return of the film’s original characters, including Batson (Asher Angel), Freddy (Jack Dylan Grazer), Eugene (Ian Chen), Pedro (Jovan Armand), Darla (Faithe Herman), and Mary (Grace Fulton), as well as their super-powered counterparts, played by Levi, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, D.J. Cotrona, Meagan Good and Fulton. Djimon Hounsou will also return as the ancient Wizard Shazam. The sequel also features some new additions, however, including Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu as Hespera and Kalypso, evil daughters of the Greek God Atlas. West Side Story‘s Rachel Zegler is also attached in a mystery role. But now another actress has been confirmed to return in the new movie.

Posting a picture to Instagram last week, actress Lotta Losten, who also happens to be the wife of director Sandberg, confirmed that she would make an appearance in Shazam! 2. Losten did not tease her return in the post itself, but announced her comeback in the comments while replying to Kevin Can F**k Himself actor Brian Howe, who asked her “what are you about to be wonderful in now?” Check out Losten’s post and her reply to Howe’s comment below.

As many Shazam! loyalists will be aware, Losten had a brief cameo in the original movie. She played Dr. Lynn Crosby, a scientist who worked under Sivanna. When Sivanna cracked the code for summoning the Rock of Eternity, he took Crosby to an old door covered in the code’s symbols. Crosby didn’t believe Sivanna and dismissed his theory as some sort of joke. To prove her point, she touched the door and fell victim to its powers, disintegrating until all that remained were her glasses.

Since Crosby’s death was so explicitly showcased in the original Shazam! movie, it would be difficult for Fury of the Gods to bring back the character unless the appearance is limited to a flashback sequence. It is possible, however, that Losten may play an entirely new character in Shazam! 2, as there is no official confirmation of her role yet. How Sandberg has chosen to bring his wife back into the franchise will likely be a something that fans won’t find out until the sequel is released. Given the director’s knack for teasing fans and packing his projects with plenty of Easter eggs and references, Losten’s upcoming cameo in Shazam! 2 is sure to be an entertaining one.
