Exclusive Interview with Viviane Bonfim

Hi Viviane! Great to talk to you!

You are from Brazil right?! Where all have you taught since you became a teacher?

Yes, I am Brazilian, born and raised. I have taught in Portugal, Brazil, and the United States.

What are some of the differences you have noticed in teaching in different countries?

I have noticed that different backgrounds and cultures impact education. Also, different countries have different approaches to teaching and learning. Views on the curriculum and how it should be taught, I believe, are the major differences I have noticed in different places I have taught.

You are currently based out of NYC. How has that experience been?

Living in NY has been great. This is my favorite place in the world. NY is a multi-cultured city and that fascinates me.

Do you have advice for people who are about to start teaching?

Being a teacher is about being flexible. There are moments when you will feel like giving up, but remember that your students will look up to you and see you as a role model.

What would you say is your favorite thing about what you do?

I love the connection I build with my students. When your students feel safe and that you care about them, they will definitely learn from you.

Thank you for your time today!

Thank you!
