In the official trailer dropped Tuesday by Paramount, we see the origin story of Clifford and how his adventures begin as a small dog found by a magical animal rescuer, played by John Cleese. Emily asks how big the dog will get and is told it depends on how much she loves it. We know what’s coming next.
In the trailer we see a very rambunctious Clifford snagging someone in a walking ball in a New York City park and nearly swallowing another dog (no harm done btw).
Directed by Walt Becker, Clifford The Big Red Dog stars Darby Camp as Emily Elizabeth, a middle-schooler Emily who meets a magical animal rescuer (John Cleese) who gifts her a little, red puppy. She never anticipated to wake up to find a giant ten-foot hound in her small New York City apartment. While her single mom (Sienna Guillory) is away for business, Emily and her fun but impulsive uncle Casey (Jack Whitehall) set out on an edge-of-your-seat adventure.
Clifford the Big Red Dog is produced by Scholastic Entertainment/Kerner Entertainment Company in association with eOne Films and New Republic Pictures. Becker directs from a screenplay by Jay Scherick & David Ronn and Blaise Hemingway. Screen story by Justin Malen and Ellen Rappaport. The film is produced by Jordan Kerner (The Mighty Ducks, Charlotte’s Web) and Scholastic’s Iole Lucchese. Brian Oliver, Bradley J. Fischer, Valerii An, Brian Bell, Caitlin Friedman, Deborah Forte and Lisa Crnic serve as executive producers. In addition to Darby Camp, Jack Whitehall and John Cleese, the film’s cast includes Tony Hale, Sienna Guillory, David Alan Grier, and Russell Wong.
Clifford The Big Red Dog hits theaters on September 17.
