Vin Diesel Knows What The Fast & Furious Franchise Ending Is

With F9 on the heels of releasing, mega star Vin Diesel already knows how the Fast & Furious franchise will end. Since 2001’s The Fast and the Furious, Diesel has played professional street racer, Dominic Toretto, in over eight different installments of the series. Though his character mostly sat out during 2006’s Tokyo Drift, Toretto has been front and centered in every film since then, leading his “family” through multiple adventures and heists, most of which defy any sense of reality.

The first installment of the Fast & Furious franchise was a massive hit upon release, so much so that the film then went on to spawn eight additional movies, as well as a spin-off movie and a Netflix original series. In fact, while F9 is on the verge of releasing, a 10th film in the franchise is already in the works. In addition, at least two more spin-off movies are currently being planned. With all of those projects looking to keep the franchise going, the main Fast & Furious storyline will end with Fast 11, which is poised to debut sometime in 2024. Going further, it seems that one of the main cast members already knows how the franchise will end.

Sitting down for an interview with Collider, Diesel let loose that he already knows how the Fast & Furious franchise will end. While Diesel does not exactly lay out any particular end scene, he does explain that he’s had a recurring vision in mind for how the finale of the finale would look. He goes on the explain that both he and director Justin Lin have been taking great lengths to work towards that particular ending. View Diesel’s full answer below:

I have a scene that’s recurring [in my mind] and has been for many years now of what I’ve always imagined what the finale of the finale would be. And Justin [Lin] and I have talked to great lengths and we worked towards that. So much of ‘F9’ is getting prepped and ready for a two-part finale of the saga. So, could I articulate it now or would I articulate it now? I might not be able to do that, but what’s unique about this release is that we clearly had to push the release a year. And that pushed into our preproduction of this two-part ‘Fast’ finale. So, every day, I’m coming to talk about ‘Fast 9’ and going home to work on ‘Fast 10.’

During the interview, Diesel mentions the fact that the newest film in the franchise, F9, was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. As Diesel explained, this delay has undoubtedly cut into pre-production for the next movie, which is particular of note since Fast & Furious 10 and 11 will shoot back-to-back. By shooting the final two installments back-to-back, it will ensure a shorter wait time between both films releases. However, due to the delay of F9, it seems the next two installments may also see some sort of delay as well.

With Lin serving as director for five installments in the franchise, as well as pegged to direct the final two films, he and Diesel have a lengthy history with the Fast & Furious series. It’s clear that for some time now, Diesel has had a vision for how he wants the franchise to end, which he has shared with Lin. Though Diesel cannot quite articulate the particular end scene he envisions, fans of the Fast & Furious franchise can rest easy knowing that the fate of their favorite characters are in the hands of people who love the series as much as they do.
